The Award Winning Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens were started by Jennie Butchart almost one hundred years, When the cement quarry that her husband started began running dry, Jennie started planting rose bushes in its place, in what has become the Sunken Garden. Since then, The Butchart Gardens have become a world class destination for nature lovers and all those who just enjoy looking at beautiful things.
Pick your Experience
There’s an adventure for everyone at The Butchart Gardens. Choose from a variety of “Experiences” while at the Butchart Gardens that are appropriate for both the holidays and seasons! For example, the Living Fossil Walk, The Night Illumination, The Greenhouse Tour, or the Spring Prelude Indoor Garden. (Check online for any extra tickets, or seasonal dates you might need)
Stay for Dinner!
Indulge your appetite as well as your senses while at the Butchart Gardens. Stay for lunch, for dinner or come for an Afternoon Tea. Opt for the formal Butchart family’s dining room, or the more casual Blue Poppy. If you’re in the mood for a snack you’ll love the Coffee Shop as well as the seasonal food carts scattered throughout the garden offering everything from popcorn to gelato to hot dogs. Chef Travis Hansen creates the menu based on what’s in season, both locally on the island and what’s growing in the edible portions of the gardens. These folks will even put a picnic together for you featuring B.C. Wild Salmon, salads, side dishes and desserts.
The Butchart Gardens are located a short 23 km from Victoria, right before the Swartz Ferry. Come for the Saturday night Fireworks from June to September. Don’t forget to visit the Seed and Gift Store which is open year round. We love checking their blog regularly for their daily flower reports from the gardens!
